We are a multidisciplinary society and welcome membership applications from nurses, biomedical and clinical scientists, pharmacists and allied health professionals, and medics.

With almost 60 years of experience, we aim to utilise science and experience to shape professional development and patient care in haematology.

Key points

Membership applications are reviewed on the 15th of every month by the BSH Board of Trustees. We will notify you within four weeks of the deadline of the success of your application.

If you are a UK taxpayer, our membership subscriptions are tax deductible. You could claim at least 20% of your subscription back. NB: joint membership payments are partially income-tax deductible.

Please note: all applicants residing and working outside the UK must supply a short (<2 pages) CV with their application.

Subscriptions are payable in advance and run annually from 1 January to 31 December. All members receive their annual renewal notice by email or mail in late November/early December.

You are eligible for Full Membership.

Full members pay £165.37 annually and receive access to the BJHaem online and hardcopy, reduced registration costs at events and our Annual Scientific Meeting, members-only website and video content, and regular member-only communications.

You are eligible for Full Membership at a reduced rate.

While eligible, you will receive a discount and pay £82.68 annually, yet still receive full membership benefits, including access to the BJHaem online and hardcopy, reduced registration costs at events and our Annual Scientific Meeting, members-only website and video content, as well as regular member-only communications.

You are eligible for an Associate membership.

While eligible for a free Associate Membership, you will receive member-only communications, full access to the website (excluding BJHaem online access) and reduced registration at events and our Annual Scientific Meeting.

If you wish to access the BJHaem, be eligible to stand for the Board or vote in Society elections, you are also eligible for the Full Member (Reduced) subscription, which receives full membership benefits for £82.68 annually.

Who can apply
Full membership is open to all though typically, members are senior haematology professionals, including consultants, senior lecturers, senior scientists and Allied Health Professionals at band 8b and above.

Benefits of membership
Full members receive all the membership benefits listed above, including access to our renowned journal, the British Journal of Haematology, voting rights in Society elections, eligibility to stand for the Board of Trustees and discounted ACS Certification and HCPC Registration.

Full members are also eligible for discounted full membership with the European Hematology Association through our BSH-EHA Joint Membership.

Who can apply
Established haematology professionals, including:

  • specialty trainees,
  • academic clinical fellows,
  • residents of low- and middle-income countries,
  • specialty doctors,
  • HSST trainees,
  • post-doctoral researchers and scientists, and
  • Allied Health Professionals at band 8a.

Contact our membership team to confirm your eligibility if you work privately or outside the UK.

The reduced membership is also available to those eligible for Associate membership, including students or retired professionals that wish to access the British Journal of Haematology or vote in Society elections.

  • STP trainees, and
  • nurses and allied health professionals up to and including Band 7.
